Adventures on a Short Time Frame.
Your time is limited, you plan only a short stop in Ulan Ude, but you want your time to be well spent and you want to discover something new, visit interesting places, experience new things... Baikal Adventures invites you to get to know the possibilities for short adventures (from a few hours to a few days) in the unique area of the Baikal region, in the Republic of Buryatia, and around the city of Ulan Ude.
Excursions on Lake Baikal. (5 hours or more) From the city of Ulan Ude you can easily travel to the eastern shore of Lake Baikal. You need at least five hours as the round-trip travel time is about four hours. During the excursion we can introduce you to local people and their traditional ways of life, take you to the beautifully reconstructed Posol’sk Monastery on the lake’s shore, and give you a taste of fresh omul (a unique Baikal fish) and other local specialties. Excursion in the Selenga River Delta. (10 hours or more) The Selenga River Delta is one of the key ornithological sites of Eastern Siberia. This unique eco-system covers more then 600 square meters. Consisting of an intricate web of channels, islets, and reed and sedge thickets, it is an extremely picturesque and diverse area. A short excursion to the Selenga Delta can be done in one day. The excursion takes place on a motorboat with a guide from the Baikal Nature Reserve. Walk on the ice on Lake Baikal. (5 hours or more) Have you ever had the chance to walk around on ice that has an overall surface area of 31,500 square km and thickness of 1.5 meters, feeling underneath you a depth of 1.5 kilometers? From the beginning of January to the end of April it is quite possible to do so! You will need at least around 5-6 hours of free time and the desire to see the deepest lake on planet Earth, Lake Baikal, in the winter.
Travels in the Baikal taiga with an overnight in a winter hunting lodge. Two-thirds of the territory of Buryatia is covered by pine forest: taiga. To take an excursion in the Siberian taiga takes about one day. You can stay overnight in a traditional winter hunting lodge to fully experience life in the taiga.
Kayak Trip. (From 5 hours) To take a kayak trip on the Selenga River, the largest tributary of Baikal, you need at least 5 hours. At the beginning of the trip you will get acquainted with the particularities of the kayak, the rules of conduct on the water, and safety techniques. In 3-4 hours we can get to Ulan Ude, with a few stops and some swimming along the way. You will spend an unforgettable day on this unique river, the Selenga. Rock climbing. (From 5 hours) In the vicinity of Ulan Ude there are a few natural rock formations that are excellent for rock climbing. These places have been used for training for rock climbers, mountain climbers, and tourists interested in these sports. To visit one of these places you need only a few hours.
Mountain biking. (From 5 hours) Going mountain biking around Ulan Ude will allow you to experience an amazing feeling of speed and will take your breath away. Taking part in this adventure only requires that you know how to ride a regular bike; for the rest, an experienced instructor can teach you.
Visit to the Kominskoi Caves. (From 12 hours) These caves are located about 100 km from Ulan Ude, in the mountains of the Ulan-Burgasy Ridge of the Pribaikalsky raion. An excursion with a climb up to the caves and exploration of the caves' entrances will take a whole day. The climb up uses special mountain climbing equipment.
Excursion
to the Ivolginsk Datsan.
(From
2 hours) The Ivolginsk Datsan is the
main Buddhist temple of Russia. It is located about 30 km from Ulan Ude.
The Ivolginsk Datsan was built in 1947 and is the residence of the central
religious council of Buddhists of Russia and their head, the Bandido Khambo
Lama. An excursion to the Datsan takes a minimum of two hours. Excursion to the museums of Ulan Ude. When in the capital of Buryatia, you can take an excursion to the museums of Ulan Ude. The museums’ exhibits will get you acquainted with the historical past of our Republic and showcase the beauty of Buddhist arts and the secrets of Tibetan medicine. In the Nature Museum of Buryatia, you can get a glimpse of the biodiversity of the Baikal region. The Ethnographic Museum of Transbaikalia, Geological Museum, and Art Museum also await you.
